Compare the cost of implants, crowns, root canals, veneers, braces and whitening in India with prices in the USA, UK and Australia, and understand what affects the final bill.
The single biggest reason patients travel to India for dentistry is cost. Treatment at a well-equipped Indian clinic typically costs 60-80% less than in the United States, the United Kingdom or Australia, with comparable materials and expertise. Here is what the numbers look like, and why the gap is so large.

Why is dental care cheaper in India?
- Lower operating costs. Rent, staff salaries and lab fees are a fraction of Western levels, and these make up most of a clinic's overhead.
- Lower education debt and insurance costs. Dentists do not need to recover six-figure tuition loans or pay very high malpractice premiums.
- Local dental laboratories. Crowns, bridges and dentures are made in India at local prices, often in the clinic's own lab.
- Competition. India has a very large number of dentists, which keeps fees competitive.
The price gap is not a sign of lower quality. Reputable Indian clinics use the same implant brands, crown materials and equipment as their Western counterparts.
What affects your final bill
- City. Mumbai and Delhi are at the upper end; Pune, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Hyderabad are often 15-30% lower for the same work.
- Materials. A premium Swiss or German implant system costs more than an Indian or Korean one. Zirconia crowns cost more than porcelain-fused-to-metal.
- Specialist vs general dentist. An MDS specialist may charge more, and is worth it for implants, surgery and complex root canals.
- Additional procedures. Bone grafts, sinus lifts, extractions or gum treatment add to a quote.
- Diagnostics. A CBCT scan is usually INR 2,000 - 5,000.
Getting an accurate quote
Ask every clinic for an itemised written estimate listing each procedure, the material brand, the number of visits and what happens if a complication needs extra work. On Dentavya, many clinics publish their treatment price lists, so you can compare before you enquire.
Is it worth travelling for small treatments?
For a single filling or a cleaning, no: the flight costs more than the saving. Travel pays off when the treatment at home would cost more than USD 3,000-4,000, or when you are visiting India anyway and can schedule dental work during your stay.
